The "Centre of Excellence for the study of molecular mechanisms involved in cell-to-cell communication: from basic research to the clinic", here named "CEBR" (Centre of Excellence for Biomedical Research), has been constituted by the Italian Ministry of University (law N.697 - March 29, 2001) and officially started its activity on date April 2, 2001. The Centres of Excellence were founded with the aim of improving the scientific and educational quality of Academies. The main focuses of the Centre of Excellence are:
- Multidisciplinarity of scientific focuses in order to favor the integration among different scientific and technological competences;
- Integration between high level scientific and educational activities;
- Constitution of partnerships with private companies in order to develop collaborative research activities leading to new technological achievements;
- Creation of national and international scientific networks.
CEBR activity fulfilled these objectives and requirements so that on January 1, 2011 it became a stable Departmental structure of the University of Genoa.
CEBR is constituted by 9 Operative Units whose scientific activity relates to Biochemistry, Clinical and Experimental Immunology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Genetics, Pharmacology.
